In Memory of Joseph Tiller. Born in England, emigrated to Virginia and subsequently came to South Carolina. After application to the Council at Charleston, he received a grant of land in Kershaw District. He lived at Tillers Ferry and died there, April 1801. His wife, Prescilla Ledbetter Tiller, born in Virginia -- they were buried in an unknown place in this cemetery. Their son, William Tiller, born in Virginia April 28, 1765. He lived in Tillers Ferry and died there March 13, 1817. His wife, Charity Tiller born in South Carolina in 1776, died April 3, 1845. Both also buried in this cemetery. A second son, James Tiller, born in Virginia April 1, 1771. He was buried on this spot by the remains of his wife, Elimar Jones Tiller, born in Marlbroro District, South Carolina September 24, 1777, died August 5, 1825. She was the daughter of Mary Horry and Joshua Jones. Thou has been our dwelling place in all.
